About Ben Mooney

My Journey

I have spent a significant part of my professional career as a “fixer.”  As an Occupational Therapist of over 20 years, I have learned protocols, anatomical systems and functions, and human behavior in an effort to try to “fix” the physical and mental impairments of the patients I worked with.  I have participated in well over 10,000 interactions of “fixing” as a professional.

Somewhere in the middle of those 10,000+ interactions, I began to question my motives.  I absolutely saw incredible examples of humans pushing their limits to attain a physical milestone, and I helped so many people build skills that transformed their life. There was a message that I couldn't ignore, the more I continued: it wasn't my “fixing” that produced the best results with my patients.  It was my listening.

I am humbled and honored that I have made my living in a capacity where I work with others to nourish their life, especially when individuals I am working with are at vulnerable times in their life.  I am dedicated, passionate, and highly motivated to connect with others at a time in their life where they can change how they tell their life story.

I am currently licensed as an OT, and practice in the states of Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, and Florida. I specialize in CBT-I (Cognitive behavioral Therapy for Insomnia), CBIT (Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics), have a IFS level 1 Comprehensive Training, and am also a breathwork facilitator. I am a husband, Dad, Son, beginner campfire guitarist, outdoor adventure enthusiast, old-man hockey player, concert-goer, and world backpacker.  At the core, I am highly creative, genuinely curious, compassionate, and I love connecting with people and solving problems.

I have chosen a virtual platform in the hopes of reaching as many people as possible, while also offering an affordable service. When I look across the screen at the person I am working with, I don’t just hear a voice, see a face, or listen to a problem. Instead, I am in a world of incredible stories, and walking with you on your journey of life’s ups and downs. I am fully immersed in a collaborative process of finding deeper meaning in momentary decisions. I feel that I am exactly where I belong.

"I felt so supported and acknowledged. Ben allowed me to address things when I needed to, and was able to provide structure for me to do this. He helped me see how I can make impactful change in my life."

"An outstanding Sleep Coach."

"Ben brings knowledge, care and deep listening to his work. I came to him for a persistent middle of the night waking that I had given up any hopes of changing. Ben’s blend of sleep science, and innate compassion helped me turn my sleep around. He updated my understanding of the sleep cycle and offered concrete, personalized steps to implement change. More personally, he helped me see the ongoing impact of my past on my nervous system as I try to sleep and offered compassionate ways to embrace what was so I could better navigate the present. I highly recommend him."

"My work with Ben has been incredibly insightful and rewarding. He is deeply present, he offers such valuable feedback and most importantly, he is willing to take risks by offering suggestions to go deeper, at a pace that feels just right."

"My goal of 2024 was to finally tackle my chronic sleeping issues and insomnia which is why Ben Mooney Wellness came along at the right time."

"Within 2 months I had increased my sleep efficiency and decreased my nightly wakeups significantly. This resulted in getting a better night's sleep and being more productive throughout the day. Ben's so easy to talk to and holds you accountable in order to assist you in reaching your goals. I can not recommend Ben Mooney Wellness enough."

Mooney Wellness is built on the following tenants:

  1. As a client your innate intelligence is the primary guide in this experience and supersedes any external inputs or protocols from us.
  2. Your participation in our services is at all times voluntary and we value your input, from the overall scope and direction of our work together, to decisions made in each of our sessions. We will work to routinely define and modify outcome expectations. If an objective is ever unclear, please ask!
  3. As a client, you are invited to show up exactly as you are. We will treat you with respect and integrity, regardless of your personal opinions, beliefs, and lifestyle choices.
  4. Our work together is centered on alignment of your inner system. Our methodology will help you to use multidimensional elements incorporating cognitive, emotional, somatic, and spiritual aspects based on your needs and beliefs.
  5. We are, and ask you to be, open at all times during our work together. We each have permission to interrupt, pause conversation, or stop sessions, both, in efforts to seek clarity or if feeling discomfort. If either you or we are frustrated or concerned, we believe it is important to share those opinions in the moment with respect and compassion for the other party.
  6. Time awareness is important in our relationship. Unfortunately, there may be times where we are in the middle of working on a major topic and our scheduled time runs out. We may accordingly need to pause such sessions and revisit the issues in our next session. Using the last 5-10 minutes to create a plan for the future time period between sessions is always a priority, when possible.
  7. If you cancel your visit in less than 24 hours, there will be one warning, and a $50 fee will be charged after that point for future cancellations in less than 24 hours.
  8. In this relationship we will celebrate our imperfections. Life is complicated and topics addressed are nuanced for individual needs. Clients are invited to show up as “not perfect,, and the practitioner is allowed to “not have all of the answers.”
